Our Body’s Ability to Heal Using Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care.
Have you ever thought about your body’s ability to heal itself? Dr Jonathan Chung, a NUCCA certified chiropractic doctor, helps his clients achieve exactly this. It’s very likely that you’ve never heard of NUCCA – The National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association – as Dr Chung is one of only around 300 doctors trained in the NUCCA protocol, here in the US.
So what makes NUCCA chiropractic care different to that with which most of us are familiar? As Dr Chung explains, NUCCA is a very gentle form of chiropractic care, with no popping and cracking that is normally associated with chiropractic treatment. In fact, an initial treatment may feel somewhat anticlimactic, as the patient does not actually feel any of the very gentle adjustments. However, x-rays and improvements in the patient’s well-being quickly demonstrate the effectiveness of the treatment. Another difference with NUCCA treatment is that there is no need for long term ongoing adjustments, due to the precise x-rays and mathematical measurements used to first determine the misalignment specific to a patient, and which are then used to ensure that proper alignment is restored.
As the “upper cervical” in the name implies, the NUCCA protocol focuses on the head and upper neck, with the vertebrae in the neck considered to be the “keystone” in how the body is supported by the spine – hence the name of Dr Chung’s practice.
Dr Chung was intent from an early age to pursue a career in medicine, but soon became disillusioned with that idea as he grew to realize how at odds that would be with his own personal holistic approach to health and well-being. After receiving the benefits of chiropractic care himself, he made it his own path and went further in attaining his NUCCA credentials. His practice is highly sought after, with patients traveling long distances for treatment. Many of his patients have failed to find relief within the medical system and Dr Chung receives several referrals from medical doctors.
So what conditions does the NUCCA protocol actually treat? It treats any interference to the nervous system caused by injury to the head and neck (the craniocervical junction). Concussion, traumatic brain injury, whiplash, spinal injuries and dysautonomia (a malfunction in the autonomic nervous system which controls bodily processes like blood pressure and heart rate for example) are common conditions treated.
One of Dr Chung’s favorite success stories is that of a patient suffering with a dysautonomia condition involving rapid heart rate and fainting. This patient was unable to walk on her own and would experience blackouts lasting seconds or sometimes minutes. Traditional medical treatment had been unable to get to the root cause of her illness but after just one treatment, the patient experienced a marked improvement in her symptoms.
Another success story is that of a professional equestrian who suffered severe concussion from a bad fall. Neurologists were unable to help but with Dr Chung’s adjustments, the patient was able to recover sufficiently to participate in the latter half of the equestrian season in Wellington, Florida.
Dr Chung is encouraged by the general public becoming more open to a holistic approach to health, embracing the fact that the body does have the ability to heal itself when given proper nutrition, rest, and of course, right alignment.
