Encouraging Students to see Plants as Designers and Problem-Solvers who offer Invaluable Insights for Human Innovation with Nandini Gosine-Mayrhoo

It’s Time to Get Back to Nature

Like Nandini Gosine-Mayrhoo, I was raised on an island with a lifestyle centered on nature, outdoor exploration, and the simple joys of climbing trees, catching grasshoppers, and eating fruit straight from the branches.

It was a time of freedom, curiosity, and moments spent at the beach with family that created unforgettable memories.

Today, however, our children are growing up in a more digital than the natural world, where screens are often a replacement for streams, and virtual experiences replace physical ones.

Nandini’s book, Nandi and the Music of the Plants, is her way of rekindling that lost connection with the outdoors. She believes in the power of nature as an educator, a source of inspiration, and a foundation for developing creativity and a deep sense of respect for the world around us.

Nandini Gosine-Mayrhoo - Award-winning author

In our “Transform Masterclass Series,” – Nandini shares her vision of allowing children to engage with nature. She guides us in observing plant structures, understanding their roles in the ecosystem, and even exploring how nature has inspired some of humanity’s greatest inventions.

She hopes to reignite a love for outdoor play, discovery, and respect for the natural world—fostering future leaders who are knowledgeable and compassionate about the planet they’ll inherit.

In a time when the world feels more separated from nature than ever, Nandini’s message is clear: It’s time to get back to nature, foster curiosity, and teach children to see the world with wonder, creativity, and respect.

Nandi and the Music of the Plants isn’t just a book; it’s an invitation for children and families to rediscover the outdoors and embrace the lessons waiting in every leaf, tree, and flower.
